It’s kinda unusual having to photograph your assistant…for many reasons. For one, they know all your tricks (damn you). So the question becomes, “How do I get them to do what I want if they know all my tricks?!” Hmmm. The great thing though is that since Gee knows my tricks, she knows what to do for the camera. She’s awesomely body aware and she even moved Ron around for me including grabbing his face and squaring it up how I needed it to lol How’s that for an assistant eh? The best part of this shoot was watching Gee and Ron be themselves. I truly haven’t had two subjects in front of my camera whom I felt were more themselves than Gee and Ron. That is, I didn’t have to “insert” myself (fancy photography term) into the photograph much and was able to stand back and capture what was just unfolding before me.
It felt honest.
I’m so incredibly happy for Gee and Ron; they’re so different yet similar enough to compliment each other in every way which is why watching them interact yesterday was a complete amusing joy.
Gee’s been the closest to a little sister I’ve ever had :) I’ve seen her shooting alongside me with her Canon Rebel and kit lens to a career change into a full time pro photographer; I’ve seen her living in someone’s basement to renting her own loft to being a home owner; I’ve seen her buy her first car and watch her learn how to drive stick (lol good times), I’ve seen her work through some tough relationships and this Sunday, I will see her get married :) And in the best way I know how, I will do my best to honour her (and Ron haha) with some great photos.
Can’t wait, you guys! xoxo
