kim + alex :: wedding

Posted on June 23, 2011

It’s crazy how weather can have such an effect on a wedding. The fact that my team and I didn’t have to be paranoid with the chance of rain really allowed us to be more free. Welp, Kim and Alex’s wedding has come and gone and as I was packing my gear on Saturday morning I couldn’t wrap my mind around the fact that they booked me three years in advance. The more I thought about it, the more it revealed to me what kind of people Kim and Alex really were. To start off with, they took a huge risk. In this wedding business, photographers come and go very quickly and they could have been put in a very frustrating situation if I decided to stop shooting or to disappear off the face of the planet with their retainer. Though I’ve been shooting weddings for nine years now, I think three years ago I was still building my business, portfolio and style. For them to believe in what I was doing, and where I was going with my photography in three year’s time is pretty cool. For their faith in me, I wanted to do something special for them. Portraits On White! Ok, let’s be honest. The POW are a big deal to set up. I’ve got to bring an extra person to the shoot just to help set up, there’s gear galore just to get all the lighting and background set up and it’s quite draining having to interact with people and get them give you a great image. Kim and Alex never got the option for the POWs because I didn’t officially offer them three years ago so I decided to surprise them with it! I’m glad I did because their family and friends are so fully of good vibes and I’m thankful I was able to capture that for Kim and Alex :)

    #85 is the shiizzz. That black is lush. Actually, whatever you’re doing to the wood on that barn (?) is so delicious. So warm and feel-good. (Y) Never seen your dance shots before, looking very fun. Great captures, Claud!

    Claudia, we completely trusted you because we could see the passion you had for photography. You see it as art, and not just a job, which is why you have been continuously perfecting your skills over the years. We knew that if you were already this good three years ago, then imagine what your photographs would look like today…and we were right! Thank you for the Portraits on White — what a wonderful surprise! Alex really, really, really wanted it and I said no because it just wasn’t in our budget. You captured some great pics of our friends and families in their most candid moments, and they’re already asking if they can get copies of those photos. I hate to say this so soon into the marriage, but Alex was right. :P To future brides, GET THE PORTRAITS ON WHITE!!! You won’t regret it.
